Autism and the Kitchen Sink
Keira distracted me by dumping her cereal on the living room floor – as I cleaned up that mess, she took the opportunity to climb up the counter, cross the sink to get to the door alarm which she managed to switch off. I caught her as she was using the kitchen sprayer to rappel from the counter top.

The other night, wearing only her underwear and her father’s sneakers, Keira slapped the back door saying “Go get sister.”
I turned Keira around and pointed to Riley and said “Sister is right there”
Keira quickly slipped out of Daddy’s sneakers, ran and grabbed Riley by the hand and said “Ok, Here we go. Let‘s go sister.”
This is a completely new ploy to get outside naked!

I told Keira she couldn’t have a brownie. She through up her hands and very dramatically as if in a black and white movie, dropped to the couch.

Today Keira told me her favorite friend is Ireland – I’m afraid!
Together Ireland and Keira are going to rule the world.
Ireland is good at implementation of destruction – she thinks on her feet. Keira on the other hand is a little more laid back. Keira stops and thinks about the long term destruction she can cause.
Ireland is going to rule the world and Keira is going to be her second in command as the ‘idea girl’ The other little girl in their class is going to be the Minister of Peace and Quiet and lull us all into a false sense of security as the 3 of them drag the 2 boys in their class along as the muscle.
Mark my words, if the 5 of them ever figure out telepathy – and they just may – we best find a real live Professor Xavier!

Daddy said he was going to take Riley shopping then come back and get Keira to go to the play ground and Keira LOST IT! Daddy had to promise to run his errand then come right back to get Keira so she could go shopping also and a mini cup cake had to be given as a peace offering lol
Keira’s truly beginning to understand everything we say.

Apparently a child’s ability to communicate directly effects their sense of taste. Keira has become a pickier eater since her ability to demand specific foods has developed. Lol
I have however figured out away to get her goo medicine into her – mix it with frosting and put it on a mini cup cake.

Last week Keira learned how to ask for her every hearts desire – this week she’s learned to ask for 2!
Keira: Hey Mom, Cup. Cup Cake. 2. 2 Cup Cake. Please.
(Daddy is working hard on her sentence structure, while I just stand there stupefied and say “2! You want 2!”)

I am creating a little booklet about Keira for her new school (suggested by her preschool)
At the moment I have 4 categories: Concerns, Strengths, Weaknesses and Super Powers.

Keira has now developed the ability to communicate her culinary wishes (demands). She feels the need to practice her new found communication skills as often as possible – I think she remembers daddy saying ….. and I quote “Once you learn to talk to us, you‘re going to be one spoiled little girl.”
Great night with the girls Keira wants to…
Great night with the girls! Keira wants to play with Riley now. Tonight Riley taught Keira how to play tag – not exactly sure how much of it Keira understood, but she did enjoy running around with her sister. Oh I love my girls!
Tons of communication out of Keira this weekend – all about food, but that’s ok. We’ll take what we can get!
She told me she wanted cereal, then told me she wanted Panda Pows, but then changed her mind and said No, Gorilla Munch. She’s trying so hard to communicate with us, she know she wants to say something it’s just figuring out how to make it so we understand. SHE’S SO CLOSE!

Me Go See Daddy Careful
You can’t tell me that I don’t have…
You can’t tell me that I don’t have THE BEST 7 year old EVER. We went to Family swim tonight, Keira had a melt down after 5 minutes, she just snapped! She has NEVER done this before, not like this. We took her out of the water and it got worse, I took her away from the water and it got much worse.
Finally it was obvious that we had to leave. I went back to the pool to get Riley and Tim. Riley didn’t complain or whine she just walked into the family changing room to get dressed. I had to send her back out to get her towel, which meant taking Keira back toward the water (which normally you can’t keep her out of) so the screeching got louder. And then I see my husband stumble and fall against the wall hardly able to walk. He had slipped and fallen hard, of course on to his bad knee and then on his hip. The life guard ran up behind him exasperated so I’m assuming Tim hit the ground rather hard. Then my husband sat down! this is something he never does. Keira’s inability to sit still she gets from his side of the family, my husband is always moving. And at this point I’m thinking ‘Oh God, they are going to have to call rescue to get him out of here’ – he really looked that bad. Figuring I better get Riley dressed before the next catastrophe hits, I rush her back into the dressing room – literally kick a woman out of the dressing room where I had left Riley’s clothing, Rush Riley getting dressed the ENTIRE TIME Keira is screaming uncontrollably. I had moved from the comforting mommy stage and I was in super realistic – deal with it – mommy phase at that point. I pulled Riley out of the dressing room in bare feet and into the hallway because that is the only place Keira had remotely looked as if she would calm down. And Riley didn’t say a word, she just held what I told her to carry, move when I told her to move, she didn’t yell at Keira, which at that point was the biggest shocker. Luckily Tim was able to get to the locker room and changed under his own power and as we walked out of the Community Center Riley was happy and sweet. I told her when she got home she was going to get 2 scoops of ice cream, covered in syrup topped with cookies … and she asked WHY? OMGOSH! I would have done anything she asked at that point she had been so good.
