You can’t tell me that I don’t have THE BEST 7 year old EVER. We went to Family swim tonight, Keira had a melt down after 5 minutes, she just snapped! She has NEVER done this before, not like this. We took her out of the water and it got worse, I took her away from the water and it got much worse.
Finally it was obvious that we had to leave. I went back to the pool to get Riley and Tim. Riley didn’t complain or whine she just walked into the family changing room to get dressed. I had to send her back out to get her towel, which meant taking Keira back toward the water (which normally you can’t keep her out of) so the screeching got louder. And then I see my husband stumble and fall against the wall hardly able to walk. He had slipped and fallen hard, of course on to his bad knee and then on his hip. The life guard ran up behind him exasperated so I’m assuming Tim hit the ground rather hard. Then my husband sat down! this is something he never does. Keira’s inability to sit still she gets from his side of the family, my husband is always moving. And at this point I’m thinking ‘Oh God, they are going to have to call rescue to get him out of here’ – he really looked that bad. Figuring I better get Riley dressed before the next catastrophe hits, I rush her back into the dressing room – literally kick a woman out of the dressing room where I had left Riley’s clothing, Rush Riley getting dressed the ENTIRE TIME Keira is screaming uncontrollably. I had moved from the comforting mommy stage and I was in super realistic – deal with it – mommy phase at that point. I pulled Riley out of the dressing room in bare feet and into the hallway because that is the only place Keira had remotely looked as if she would calm down. And Riley didn’t say a word, she just held what I told her to carry, move when I told her to move, she didn’t yell at Keira, which at that point was the biggest shocker. Luckily Tim was able to get to the locker room and changed under his own power and as we walked out of the Community Center Riley was happy and sweet. I told her when she got home she was going to get 2 scoops of ice cream, covered in syrup topped with cookies … and she asked WHY? OMGOSH! I would have done anything she asked at that point she had been so good.
