If you’re wondering what I was doing 8 years ago tonight – I was having a break down. I was told just days before that one side of Riley’s heart was flat and she would need emergency open heart surgery the moment she was born, I wouldn’t be able to even look at her. She’d be put on life support, rushed into surgery and immediately following be medevac’d to Boston.
With Riley’s surgical team standing beside my surgical team she was delivered by c-section, started screaming her head off and the doctor looked at me and said “She shouldn’t be able to do that” 10 minutes later Tim was holding our baby girl. Her heart was beginning to correct itself. If memory serves she had 6 ultra sounds in the next 5 days. Each time her heart was just a little bit bigger than the last, until both sides were equal size.
