Once upon a time in my 20’s I…
Once upon a time in my 20’s I lived in Philadelphia. And once upon my 20’s the Big City Philly Girl returned to visit her roots in Maine.
I was visiting my father for a week when he realized the clerk at Ye Ol’ Wheels and Deals forgot to charge my father for 2 of the 4 tires they had put on his truck.
My Dad’s response: Just Great! Now I have to go back down to Windham in the morning to pay for those.
My response: Why? (sarcastically)
My Dad’s response: Because I didn’t pay for them.
So!?! It wasn’t Dad’s fault. He was there, wallet in hand, ready to pay for the tires – all 4 of them – the clerk messed up.
Fast forward 15 years.
I’m coming out of the market with my 6 y/o with a pissy attitude and my screeching 3 y/o when I realize that the cucumbers look like they haven’t moved in over an hour – pretty much since I put them into the cart at the beginning of the trip.
My response: Oh Crap O La!
My Daughter: What’s wrong mom.
I search the receipt – “the clerk forgot to charge me for those 2 cucumbers“
Odd look from my 6 y/o.
Me: That means We didn’t pay for them.
Keeper: Mom we can’t take things without paying for them, that’s stealing.
I looked at my 3 year old, who it took every last bit of my strength to strap her into that car seat, as she continued to kick and scream and I knew without a doubt that there was no excuse I could come up with that would be able to keep me from going back into that store, up to the service desk and paying for those 2 stupid cucumbers – Oh and did I mention it was pouring rain!
Before I could say a word, Keeper unbuckled her seatbelt and jumped out of the truck. I handed her the cucumbers as I climbed back into the super cab to release our Tasmanian Devil and in we walked.
The entire time my oldest telling everyone that “We didn‘t pay for these so we have to bring them back so we can pay for them or that‘s stealing.” All the time she was acting as if I’m the superhero because we went back into the store to pay the $1.36.
Fast Forward 2 weeks.
Today I’m in the market – joyful that the girls are in school and I have time to shop by myself. As I’m filling the truck with bags I realize – yup the wine coolers are in the same place as the cucumbers were 2 weeks ago. A quick scan of my receipt shows that I wasn’t charged for my alcohol – I sigh. Hang my head. Take a very deep breath. And yes, I walked my ass back into the market with my 4 pack to pay for the stupid wine coolers.
If I don’t live the example every day, I won’t remember to live the example when it’s important.
Thanks Dad – I love you!
Todays note from Treasure’s teacher We went…
Todays note from Treasure’s teacher.
“We went outside and played in the sandbox and on the slide. She has no problem getting dirty as she demonstrated by pouring a bucket of sand all over herself and didn’t mind it one bit”
I think I’ll write back …. “She also likes to get out of the pool and roll in the sandbox – she thinks that’s just nifty.”
I think I got far to much sleep…
I think I got far to much sleep and exercise – I’m exhausted.
I can hardly keep my eye’s open today.
HOWEVER! I think I’ve figured out why Treasure doesn’t sleep through the night – or more accurately why she Does!
Treasure was born in June and she would sleep like any baby, up for a bottle then back to sleep during the night – but up all day long. But in the fall when she should have started sleeping through the night she was up all night, happy and with tons of energy.
(2008) Come the next summer she turned 1 and finally started sleeping through the night during the spring, but when fall came we had the same problem, Treasure would go down in the evening, wake up around midnight and be up until 5am, then go down for 2 hours – never needing a nap during the day.
I figured she was waking up for the bottle, so I took her off the bottle at 18 months – Dec – and she didn’t sleep through the night again until the spring right before she turned 2.
2009) The summer Treasure turned 2 it rained the entire summer and it was actually COLD. We never went outside, we never did anything – ugh! The summer of 2009 it was terrible – every fun activity in Maine during the summer is OUTSIDE! So unless we were to go to the children’s museum every day there was Nothing to do.
(2010) The summer Treasure turned 3 (last summer) Tim had the pool out early. Treasure taught herself to hold her breath underwater the first day, we basically lived in the pool.
The summer was hot as hell (actually quite a nice change from the summer before.) We had fans in the girls room and the windows were open all spring, summer and some of the fall – Treasure slept through the night most nights. I started charting her sleep patterns trying to find something, anything, that would give me some kind of clue to why she would sleep through the nights some nights and not others.
She wasn’t sleeping through the night every night, but we were at sleeping 5 nights and up only 2 nights. But I couldn’t find anything other than the MORE activity Treasure had during the day the more likely she was to be UP half the night. The Opposite of every other child on the planet.
Then this morning it hit me!
It’s been warm out, I’ve opened all the windows. The windows in our house all have special reinforced locks (Because we don‘t want Treasure to escape or anyone to break in) so we can leave the windows about an inch up every night. And low and behold Treasure has slept through the night EVERY NIGHT since I opened the windows.
I think it’s air circulation!
When the windows are open, she sleeps – usually and when she does wake up she is VERY happy – at 2 am.
But in the fall and winter when the windows are closed – she wakes up every night and she’s grumpy.
We have a sound machine in the room, but we’ve never used a fan (except when it was hot) because Treasure was so little we didn’t want her to wake up and put her fingers in it, but now I’m thinking, even if we have to suspend it from the ceiling we need a fan in that room 365!

Whatever path our activity takes, if our intention is to make ourselves useful to others, there is a good chance our conduct will be useful; whereas activities generally considered to be good, such as the practice of religion, risk causing more harm than good if they are not motivated by a desire to help our fellow beings. ~Dalai Lama

My Doctor Reminded me of this video today:
I HATE GOOGLE
I would like to start a class action law suit! I’d like to sue Google for leading me to Malicious Websites!
Tonight I was looking for images to help me with a project for my daughter. Google gave me this websites: blogis.dr.ag as a site where I could find a vector image that I needed.
However, once I get there I can’t leave. 500 pop ups. If you don’t click OK and download malicious software, you can’t leave. I have to use End Task to close my browser then click the X as fast as possible as soon as I reopen my browser in hopes of closing the page before it has time to infect my computer.
Why would Google lead me to such a wicked place?
I want an option in my Google Search that reads “Do NOT show me websites that won‘t allow me to leave!”
What the HELL is Google thinking? This is Googles Fault!
I want to sue to force Google to create a search engine that ONLY gives me acceptable options and not spam and harmful sites.
Google THINKS they know what I want, why don’t they give me a place where I can TELL them what I really want.
I NEVER what to be given a link to a site with a pop up or with a page I can’t close.
And why can’t I get the stink’n Google Landing page? Why am I getting the iGoogle page? I don’t want the iGoogle Page. I want the plain window with the word Google and the big box.
I HATE GOOGLE!!!

Google BAN ALL PAGES WITH POPUPS!!!
I honestly could not love this site more…

A Toronto couple have revealed that they are raising their third child as ‘genderless’ in order to allow the baby to decide on its own gender.

Why? Eye Roll!
You are born with a gender, there is nothing wrong with gender and there is nothing wrong with changing it later. There is nothing wrong with little girls who like to be all girly and prissy and there is nothing wrong with a boy who likes being all girly and prissy. I’ve known guys who like being guys and like wearing heals! They didn’t want to be women, they just like the clothing. The problem isn’t gender – its us.
